About the project
The LEG-DHC project aimed to boost the development of Energy GeoStructure (EGS) technology and to evaluate its integration into district heating and cooling systems. The upscaled geothermal energy technology will be integrated with other renewable energy resources, green buildings and greenhouse gas reduction strategies to create next-generation zero-emission thermal networks.
As the carbon footprint of electricity falls, the electrification of heating and cooling with high-efficiency ground-source heat pumps is key to reducing non-renewable energy use. Despite huge potential, geothermal systems are installed at a lower rate than other renewables.
Codema delivered a report outlining the role and potential of energy geostructures in Dublin’s district heating, including a comparative analysis that places energy geostructures in context with other heat sources compatible with district heating.
