One of just three women shortlisted throughout Europe

We’re thrilled that our very own CEO, Donna Gartland, is the first woman in Ireland to be shortlisted in the Women in Energy category at this year’s European Sustainable Energy Awards.

This prestigious nomination recognises Donna’s significant contributions to Ireland’s clean energy transition, her leadership in low-carbon heat solutions (particularly district heating) and her commitment to advancing gender equality and work-life balance within the energy sector.

In the space of 15 years, Donna’s remarkable career journey has seen her rise from an apprentice electrician working on construction sites across Ireland to CEO of the country’s largest energy agency.

During her time at Codema, Donna has spearheaded projects like the Tallaght District Heating Scheme, the first of its kind in Ireland. Her leadership continues to drive critical projects that are transforming the energy landscape across Dublin.

As a strong advocate for women in energy, Donna has fostered an inclusive and diverse workplace at Codema, with women now making up the majority of staff and senior leadership. Under her leadership, Codema has introduced progressive workplace policies such as a four-day working week with full pay and gender-neutral family leave, creating a supportive environment for all our team.

Donna’s nomination is a much-deserved recognition of her exceptional leadership and the positive impact she is making on Ireland’s energy future. Everyone at Codema is rooting for Donna and wishes her the very best as she continues to inspire the next generation of women in energy.
