Codema visits Assen, in the Netherlands, for DISCO peer review workshop

We’re glad to keep exchanging knowledge on innovative financing models for waste heat utilisations with our partners across Europe.

On the 2nd and 3rd of December, members of the Codema and Kildare County Council teams participated in a peer review workshop hosted by the DISCO project in Assen, the Netherlands.

The Advancing DIStrict heating and COoling solutions for efficient waste heat utilisations (DISCO) project will test and develop energy efficiency policies and solutions to decarbonise heating and cooling for buildings in ten European regions.

A highlight of the trip was a visit to Attero, a leading circular-economy and waste-to-energy facility. Attero transforms biowaste into green gas and compost, extracts recyclable materials from residual waste and converts remaining waste streams into heat, electricity, and building materials.

The visit offered valuable insights and an opportunity to compare approaches with Irish facilities while identifying new ideas for improvement.

We would like to thank the Province of Drenthe and the House of Energy for co-organising the meeting!

Codema is looking forward to continuing this collaboration and bringing back learnings that can support Dublin’s transition to a more sustainable, low-carbon future.

About our work with DISCO

Codema’s key role will be to support Kildare County Council as part of DISCO, to help the local authority apply the findings of the project to their own Climate Action Plan and County Development Plan, with the aim of improving the local authority’s overall policies regarding waste heat.

Codema will also participate in dissemination and knowledge-sharing activities.
