MultiRoofs partners meet in Dublin to advance next phase of rooftop innovation

Codema and Dublin City University hosted the third MultiRoofs consortium meeting in Dublin from 19th to 21st of May, which focuses on idenfying the best uses for rooftop spaces across European cities. The project meeting brought project partners together to review progress, strengthen collaboration and prepare for the next phase of implementation.

The three-day meeting combined strategic working sessions, peer learning and site-based exchange, with a strong focus on moving the project from early data collection and strategy development towards more practical, place-based pilot activity across participating cities.

A key focus of the Dublin meeting was the conclusion and reflection on Work Package 1. Partners reviewed progress to date, shared learnings from the first phase of the project and aligned on the development of coordinated action plans for the next stage.

The programme was designed to be highly interactive, with co-creation sessions exploring incentives for multifunctional rooftop implementation, workshops using prototype tools developed through the project, presentations from local authorities and a site visit to the Rediscovery Centre rooftop space in Dublin.

As co-hosts, Codema and Dublin City University helped ground the discussions in the Dublin context. Codema presented the current situation in relation to rooftop planning in Dublin, local initiatives already underway and potential pathways for progressing multifunctional roof solutions at city level.

The meeting also built on discussions from a dedicated focus group held the previous day, which brought together climate action teams, planners and digital strategy experts from the four Dublin Local Authorities. This created a valuable opportunity to identify the most immediate and realistic opportunities to explore and demonstrate multifunctional roof spaces, while considering how these approaches could be more strongly embedded in wider city strategies and local authority practice.

The visit to the Rediscovery Centre roof added a practical dimension to the meeting, giving partners a real Dublin example through which to connect technical ideas with local application.

Overall, the third MultiRoofs consortium meeting marked an important step forward for the project, helping partners move from early-stage analysis towards implementation, shared learning and pilot development across regions.
