Codema CEO Donna Gartland wins prestigious Women in Energy Award
We are thrilled to announce that our CEO, Donna Gartland, has won the prestigious Women in Energy Award at the European Sustainable Energy Awards in Brussels, following a month-long public vote.
This is a proud moment for Donna and the entire Codema team. Donna was the first woman in Ireland to be shortlisted in the Women in Energy category, joining just two other amazing women from across Europe in the final public vote – Suzanne Renard from France and Germany’s Dr Nadia Horstmann.
The award recognises Donna’s outstanding contribution to Ireland’s low-carbon transition, her leadership in areas such as district heating and her commitment to advancing gender equality and work-life balance in the energy sector.
A deserving win
Over the past 15 years, Donna’s career has taken her from working as an apprentice electrician on construction sites across Ireland to becoming CEO of the country’s largest energy agency. During her time at Codema, she has helped lead major projects transforming Dublin’s low-carbon transition, including the Tallaght District Heating Scheme, the first of its kind in Ireland.
Donna has also been a strong advocate for creating a more inclusive energy sector. Under her leadership, women now make up the majority of Codema’s staff and senior leadership, while the organisation has introduced progressive workplace policies including a four-day working week with full pay and gender-neutral family leave.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who voted for Donna and showed their support throughout the campaign. This award is a fitting recognition of Donna’s inspiring leadership and the positive impact she continues to make on Ireland’s energy future.
