Codema shares expertise on waste heat recovery at European forum
Our Heat and Electricity lead John O’Shea shared practical insights on waste heat recovery and district heating at a key European policy forum.
Sharing insights on waste heat recovery
Towards the end of 2025, Codema’s Heat and Electricity lead, John O’Shea, took part as a contributor and speaker at the Euroheat and Power Stakeholder Forum on Waste Heat Recovery in Brussels.
The event brought together representatives from the European Commission, Euroheat and Power policymakers and industry experts to provide insights into the opportunities, barriers and collaboration needed to accelerate waste heat recovery in district heating systems.
During the forum, John spoke about Codema’s role in developing district heating networks that utilise waste heat, highlighting practical experiences, stakeholder cooperation and the policy frameworks needed to support effective implementation. John’s contribution showcased the importance of knowledge-exchange and cross-sector engagement in overcoming common barriers and scaling waste heat utilisation across Europe.
The event aligns closely with Codema’s involvement in the DISCO project, an Interreg Europe project that sets out to test and develop energy efficiency policies and solutions to decarbonise heating and cooling for buildings in 10 European regions.
Codema’s participation in the Brussels forum both contributes to DISCO’s objectives – particularly capacity-building, stakeholder cooperation and dissemination of best practice – and supports Codema’s strategic priorities in the ares of leadership in innovation and best-practice engagement and dissemination in the transition to low-carbon heat.
