Energy Systems Professional

We are recruiting for a new Energy Systems Professional – Energy Research, Development, Innovation – to work on implementation of research and demonstration projects, and energy planning projects with a focus on local and regional decarbonisation initiatives.

Salary range: €38,000 - €43,000

About the role

We are excited to announce that we are recruiting for a new Energy Systems Professional to work on implementation of research and demonstration projects, and energy planning projects with a focus on local and regional decarbonisation initiatives, transferring knowledge from best-practice European case studies. Areas of work change but include, energy modelling, heat decarbonisation, holistic cross-energy sector place-based energy planning, energy communities, energy policy.

What you will do

Project-based work:
  • Support local implementation of funded research and demonstration projects in the fields of energy, climate and decarbonisation with a local and regional focus on Dublin.
  • Work in areas such as energy modelling, heat decarbonisation, cross-sector energy planning, energy communities, and energy policy (Experience in all of these areas is not required — we’re looking for candidates with a strong foundation, a strong core skill-set and a willingness to learn)
  • Serve as a point of contact for project partners and other stakeholders involved in the projects you are responsible for, ensuring seamless communication and coordination
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations for grant funded projects
Provide technical expertise
  • Undertake continued on the job learning with an ability and interest in acquiring new technical skills, to support project delivery in a changing and fast-moving area with many new emerging solutions, technologies, methodologies and skills.
  • Keep up to date on energy policy developments
  • Provide technical expertise to Codema’s projects – ensuring all project outputs are delivered according to schedule and meet the company’s high-quality standards
  • Provide projects with an understanding of international and local energy sector pathways and energy planning, and a knowledge of analytical methods and tools
Communication and stakeholder management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to facilitate collaboration and support project success
  • Stakeholder management in projects that may have many project partners, to gain consensus for project activities in Dublin

Minimum requirements

  • Experience: 2-3 years experience in energy, climate or sustainability sector
  • Education: A degree qualification relevant to engineering, science, climate or energy (NFQ Level 7/8)
  • Learning and Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to learn on the job, adapt to new challenges, and work in a dynamic, fast-evolving sector.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the initiative to address issues proactively and develop practical solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences (e.g., clients, stakeholders, and policy makers).
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to build relationships and manage stakeholders effectively, with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Attention to detail: High standards of accuracy and quality, with a focus on delivering outputs that meet contractual obligations and project expectations.
  • Results-Oriented: Self-motivated and organised, with a track record of delivering work on time and within scope.
  • Climate-driven: Passionate about addressing climate change, with a dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions and reducing environmental impact.
  • Language: Fluency in English essential
  • Technical Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint essential

Additional skills that would be a distinct advantage

  • Project management qualifications
  • Geographical Information System (GIS) skills
  • Experience in energy and/or emissions modelling
  • Experience in data science and analytics
  • Heat decarbonisation experience
  • R&D experience relevant to city-scale or case study perspectives
  • Experience with funded research and demonstration projects or work packages – proficient in managing complex projects, flexible and responsive to changing project requirements
