150 Sustainable Energy Communities in Dublin/Mid-East Region

28th January, 2022

We are delighted to announce that we now have 150 Sustainable Energy Communities in the Dublin & Mid-East Region.

Thirty-seven of these signed up since the pandemic, showing that community spirit is very much alive despite the challenges of Covid.

Codema acts as regional co-ordinator for Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) programme in the Dublin and Mid-East region, which inlcudes the following seven areas:

  • Dublin City
  • Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown
  • Fingal
  • South Dublin
  • Wicklow
  • Kildare
  • Meath

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland is the national co-ordinator for the SEC programme, which is a funding and support programme that helps communities to work together to become energy-smart and more sustainable. In doing so, Sustainable Energy Communities aim to use less energy by improving efficiency within the community (e.g. upgrading insulation, improved lighting and heating systems), incorporating renewable energy (e.g.by installing solar panels, generating community energy) and adopting smart energy technologies, such as smart controls.

A SEC can include a range of different energy users in the community such as individual households, sports clubs, community centres, local businesses and churches.
