Exploring the opportunity for EPC in Ireland by learning from Europe. Seminar attendees included stakeholders from local authorities, energy agencies and ESCO’s.
The Information Seminar on Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) was held in the DDDA Building in the Docklands on 7th November 2013.
Owen Keegan, Dublin City Manager, welcomed attendees to the seminar and expressed his support of the Government's Energy Services Framework to support the development of EPC projects in Ireland.
Sabine Piller, Berliner Energy Agency, gave a presentation on the aims of the EESI2020 project which is co-funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme. She also drew on the experience from Germany and highlighted current barriers to EPC implementation. Her presentation was followed by Stjohn O'Connor, Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources (DCENR) who introduced the National Energy Efficiency Fund and Energy Services Framework, which is currently being developed in Ireland. Joe Hayden, Codema, finally discussed Dublin City Council's EPC exemplar projects which are currently being developed.
The presentations were followed by a round table discussion "Is EPC the solution for funding and delivering energy efficiency in local authorities?" chaired by Codema's Director Gerry Wardell. The discussion panel included Brendan Kenny (Dublin City Council), Majella Kelleher (SEAI), Stjohn O'Connor (DCENR), Pat Gilroy (Dalkia), Sabine Piller (Berliner Energy Agency) and Reinhard Ungerböck (Graz Energy Agency).
