Lord Mayor of Dublin to officially launch MINUS 3% National Conference

Codema is delighted to announce that the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Gerry Breen, will officially launch the MINUS 3% National Conference which will take place on Thursday, 25th November in the Wood Quay Venue in Civic Offices from 9am - 1pm.

The conference is being organised jointly by Codema and Dublin City Council in association with the Northern Ireland Energy Agency.  MINUS 3% is supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe programme and aims to reduce local authority consumption by 3% each year - Dublin City has set itself an overall target of 33% by 2020, in keeping with government policy.

This will be the first national conference in relation to MINUS 3% and will highlight shining examples in order to encourage other local authorities to further reduce their energy consumption.  Representatives from regional energy agencies, local authorities, government bodies and relevant business and academic groups are invited to attend.

Some of the actions that Codema has carried out on behalf of Dublin City Council as part of the MINUS 3% project include:

  • Implementing a 'Switch Off' campaign throughout Dublin City Council, encouraging all employees to switch off lights and appliances such as computers, photocopiers and printers when not in use.
  • Transport Eco-Awareness campaign: Codema worked with Fleet Management Services to create awareness of eco-driving among the Council’s drivers.
  • Examining the energy ratings of 30 DCC buildings (initially those over 1,000 square metres) and 27,000 residential units.
  • New build energy-efficient residential units: Codema acted as energy consultant and managed the SEAI funding on the redevelopment of York Street.  This redevelopment included 66 new Council apartments which raise the bar for sustainable living in Dublin City.

About MINUS 3%

‘Shining Examples for the Implementation of the Energy End-Use Efficiency & Energy Services Directive’

MINUS 3% is a three-year project funded by the European Commission, through the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme.  Its aim is to establish shining examples for the implementation of the Energy End-use Efficiency & Energy Services Directive (2006/32/EC) in cities.  Codema is currently the lead co-ordinator of this project.

The participating cities will show that it is possible to save 3% of the City Authority’s own energy consumption per year.  The energy reduction targets are long-term to reach minus 30% by 2020 and each city has a different year-by-year result to meet this target.  Dublin City Council has set its own target of a 33% energy reduction by 2020.
